I'm a Product Designer and technology nerd who enjoys creating products that are easy to learn for everyone. My background in international education and video editing taught me how to focus on what is essential and use storytelling to create engaging experiences.
I started out my search for a field that combined these interests by completing a Film Production degree from NYU, which led me to video editing. My favorite part of the role was working with various video editing and image editing software because I enjoyed uncovering new features to communicate visually.
One thing I missed was the human element, as Video editing in small companies can be solitary. I enjoyed collaborative work environments. Career iteration 2.0 was international education. I was fascinated with experiential education or learning by doing (comes in handy for making new products easy to learn). The field also included storytelling and educational psychology but had more collaborative elements.
In all my education roles, I gravitated to working with technology: application software, updating websites, and adjusting forms. I tinkered with software to simplify processes for students and staff. I saw how some of the software and processes were unintentionally so complicated that it was causing confusion.
Instead of just thinking that that’s just the way it is, I took the initiative to propose projects aimed at enhancing the user experience. I started out with updating appointment intake processes, then pre-departure orientations before I moved into product design, building a web application for academic credit review in collaboration with information systems.
Now I am working on a website redesign project in my current role as Assistant Director in a study abroad office. I am focusing on making it easy for users to find the information and programs they need.
I also am taking on contract roles. I worked with Amped Up Design and Tech Fleet to design a mental health app for job seekers. This project is in it's early stages and in my role as UX Design Lead, I worked on refining problem statements and possible soultions, user personas, early lo-fi wireframes and ideation.
